Dallas Wright and Lisa Lewis were here for 3 days and they slayed the trout. The first day was a beautiful low water day and they caught over 150 fish!! Lisa was the “Big Gun” for the day even though she had only fished twice before! (The White River is one of the Best Trout fisheries in the world.) She caught 3 of the four species of trout only missing a brook trout for her grand slam.

The next day offered some brutal rain and wind but thyey still managed to boat around 75 fish in 5 hours fishing. They wisely got off of the river when severe lightning started. How ever Lisa continued to smile and catch fish trough it all. Dallas did very well the second day but the big rainbow eluded him. Not so for Lisa, she boated a 3 1/2 to 4 pound rainbow that was colored beautifully, and put up one heck of a fight. She said it took forever to land it on her 4 lb test line.

Lisas’ trophy rainbow!! What beautiful colors!

The fly fishing was also great all week ,and Lars and Pam Reimann wore the fish out on small midges under indicators. The low water made for excellent wading and the fish cooperated very nicely. They had a great day with Davy on one exceptionally windy day and were able to try wet fly fishing for a new twist on fly fishing. Davy is a master wet fly fisherman and Pam in particular took to the wet fly fishing in a big way.

The temps are cooling and the water has been consistently low making for great days on the river. If you are a White River enthusiast or have never fished the White, now is a great time to be here. The river is chuck full of fish and the Brown Trout are in spawning mode. My personal favorite time to fish the White River is November through March. Both spin fishing and fly fishing are good and February is a prime time to throw big streamers for the huge, hungry, post spawn browns.
