White River Trout Fishing Report
Categories: None | Tags: None
I have been lax on my White River Trout Fishing Report for the last couple of months and I apologize. I can assure you the fishing has been good, I just haven’t made the time. Our lakes are at or below pool which has been offering great wading opportunities for our fly fishermen. The midge fishing has been very good with the unseasonably warm winter so far. When they are running water streamers have been working very well with lots of browns in the 18 to 21 inch range being caught. Of course the four and five pound fish are also being caught just not in the large numbers.
A very nice winter Brown!
Our spin fishermen have been doing great with tons of rainbows being caught! Last week Zach Copeland was up from Dallas Tx. with nine other guys for a fishing bachelor party. They all fished only one day, and the water was dead low. Zach and his partner had 35 rainbows by 10:30 and decided to turn their attention to Brown Trout. By the end of the day they had landed 18 browns with the largest one weighing in at 5 1/2 pounds and the next one down was just over 4 lbs. All the rest were in the 17 to 21 inch range which are very healthy 2 and 3 pounders. All of the browns were released to fight again.
Big Bill Thorne with a pretty 6 lb Brown!!
The browns are on their spawning redds right now and the fishing is just getting better day by day. For the next two months the Brown Trout fishing will be about as good as it gets on the White River. A large percentage of the Big browns are in the upper 15 miles of river above the Cotter bridge. We have not had any type of shad kill as of yet with the low water and mild temps but that can change in a hurry. If you have never fished the White River, or if perhaps it is your favorite trout fishery, now is a great time to come experience the fishing the White River is famous for!
