White River Fishing Report: Excellent June 18, 2011

The fishing for the last week has been excellent! The corps still has not found it necessary to bump the river to a full flow of eight generators out of Bull Shoals. This has the trout fishing staying very, very good but on a slower flow. With the lower generation it is much safer for novices and fishermen renting boats to navigate the river. There are lots of nice brown trout being caught in the 17 to 21 inch range and the rainbows are biting just about anything you like to use. Small plastic red worms by creme have been producing very well, as well as rogues, spoons and small Mepps spinners.

One very FAT rainbow trout!

Any fly fishermen should do well on small midges under indicators. With the relatively low flows we have had this last week, getting your fly down to the right depth isn’t as difficult as it has been, and keeping it in the “strike zone” is also less challenging. Streamer fishing has been pretty good with some nice fish coming from holding spots along the shoreline. Keep in mind that on the bright sunny days, any cover at all can be holding one of the White River’s mammoth browns! Anything like shade, depth, current seams, or bottom structure offer these opportunistic predators an edge. A well presented fly can produce a trophy of a lifetime anytime on the White River, and predictions are that the next world record brown trout will come from the White River.

If you have a chance to get away in the next couple of weeks, it is a great time to be on the White. We still have a couple of openings for the July 4th weekend and would like to have you come up and fish. Give us a call at 870-430-2233 for any information you might need, or we can just talk fishing. Until next week, keep your lines tight and catch a bunch of fish!
